Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's ODI Team to Face India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-match ODI series versus India, with high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw earning a unexpected selection.

Recent Form Result in Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the ODI squad after managing only a single run in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of 47 in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 ODIs and scored 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test recall in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Updates

There have been indications of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a return to the Test team as Australia look for a answer to their batting top-order problems.

Bowling Additions and Injury News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he aims to recover from a back injury by the time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Schedule

Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to seal a two-nil victory last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from October 29.
